The Discovery
by V.C. McDade

For the invincible, doubt is the fear that shines a light on the truth.

This first book, The Discovery charts two German orphans, Stefan and Leopold, who are indoctrinated into the Hitler youth culture and skillfully guided through their military career by their guardian. They emerge, the elite of the elite, quintessential products of Heinrich Himmler's Aryan clone culture, instruments of war, programmed to propagate the fear and horror of the Nazi regime, both strikingly handsome, with no empathy for those they ruthlessly subjugate.

As commander of a fledgling Einsatzgruppen, death squad, Stefan makes a chance discovery in an ancient cemetery, above the hilltop, partisan village of San Pantaleo, Sardinia, that brings him into direct contact with those that have set his life to an evil purpose and now place him on a path that creates a thrilling and at times dark suspense story based on the extraordinary fact that the Sardinians are amongst the longest living inhabitants on the planet.
Follow Stefan's journey of discovery, as fragments of his humanity are awakened, by a new sense of free will in seeing their world collapsing before his eyes and with realization of the truth, possibly too late, all they have believed in is a lie, all they have sacrificed has been wasted by those that have deceived an entire race.

In his struggles to remain loyal to the cause he has sworn to die for, while still protecting the few that he still trusts, he will discover in offering himself as the ultimate sacrifice that others forged by the same moulds of the Third Reich, will ultimately lead him to his destiny.

….. but at what cost?

Extended synopsis,

The journey of two German, orphan boys, Stefan and Leopold, who emerge from the indoctrination program of Nazi Germany during WW II, the elite of the elite SS. SD. Officers.
Commanding an enforcement squad, they are deployed  to Corsica to hunt down Resistance saboteurs in the region. Interrogations lead them to the Island of Sardinia, where, in the hills above San Pantaleo, Costa Smeralda, about to carry out a heinous war crime, Stefan the commander, discovers while resting in an ancient cemetery, the curious, but fact that the Sardinian inhabitants live longer than any other humans on the planet.
Stefan is aware of the Aryan, experimentations, being carried out by the Aktion T4 scientists in other regions of the Reich on individual races that have inherent strengths and considers it his duty to report the inexplicable phenomenon.
Forty-eight hours later, a team is dispatched from the Kaiser Wilhelm University in Berlin to investigate his observations, and Stefan is summoned before the Reichsführer, Heinrich Himmler and an executive committee within the Reich Chancellery.
Himmler decides to instigate The Vor Elle project, to discover the cause of the Sardinians exceptional longevity and Stefan is charged with the creation of a secret underground facility on the island and assigned a seductive Reich liaison officer, Elizabet Kempe.
Kindred spirits of their time, their relationship blossoms, as they play cat and mouse with the Gestapo shadow, that monitor Stefan’s activities each time he returns to Berlin to report on the status of the project, while their once-proud capital is increasingly subjected to attack.

With the seeds of doubt, already cracking through the concrete of Stefan’s Hitler youth programming, honour decrees, he pledges to serve his masters, with the ultimate sacrifice, that he and his men will take part in the experiments on the island, unaware that the Aktion T4 team leader Professor Heikkinen, has a depraved and sinister passion.
The result for the Islanders is a horrific culling, to discover their genetic secret and for Stefan, having found his soul partner in Elizabet and although now on the verge of reclaiming his humanity, the fruition to the scientist experiments have deadly and unpredictable consequences.
